I hope you are all setting into your rotation in the ED after your first couple of shifts. As I alerted to you at orientation on Monday. I expect the rostered DAY and EVENING Interns on the day to attend the teaching sessions - all the ED Consultants are aware of these teaching sessions and will let you off the floor to attend teaching. All others not rostered are welcome to attend but it is on your own time.
I am still waiting to receive your ID photos from some of you hence I have not finalised the Intern and Consultant Mentor pairings. Those of you who have not sent them in to me, do so ASAP. I will send out the final Intern and mentor pairing by Tuesday next week ( whether I have your photo by then or not - it is really important so your mentors can out name to face in the first few weeks and keep a look out for you).
Next tutorial is on Friday this week 4th March, topic 'Trauma - Initial assessment and Mx' - with me, usual time and place, level 1 ED tutorial room 2, 2:30 - 3:30pm. This is the last in the series for this term - we have a couple of weeks left - if there is a 'dying request' for a particular topic I will try to cover it if schedules permit.
1. Interns - those of you who have not met up with your mentor and submitted your mid-terms, MUST do so by end of this week, only 3 weeks left till end of term and end of term feedback/assessments are only around the corner. If not done by Friday - come and see me after the tutorial and we will sit down and discuss and submit it.
2. Residents - please meet up with your allocated mentor to discuss progress/your goals for this term in ED/SSU, your mid-terms also also just around the corner.
Just a reminder, next ED Intern tutorial is this Friday Jan 29th - ED Level 1 Meeting Room - usual time, 2:30 - 3:30pm.
I'll be doing the tutorial - 'Cardiovascular 2: Arrhythmias' - how to approach arrhythmias, pattern recognition of common & life threatening arrhythmias and Mx/ACLS algorithm.....
As usual, we expect the rostered DAY and EVENING Interns to attend - all others are also very welcome.
Also please see attached above the tutorial program/dates for the rest of this term - now that I know myself and Leonie's available dates.
See you on Friday!
Please read the new tutorial timetable on the main page.
These tutorials cover Core Topics which are essential for the practice of Emergency Medicine - we would like you to be familiar with these clinical presentations by the end of your time with us. These are run by myself and Dr. Leonie Marcus (ED Consultant).
Time and Place - 2:30pm to 3:30pm in Tutorial Room 1 or 2, Level 1 ED Office.
We expect the rostered DAY and EVENING Interns on the day to attend (day interns bring your lunch to teaching and have your lunch break then - let your consultant know that you're going to the tute, for evening interns starting at 2:30pm, come first to teaching then start work after the tute). Those who are not rostered to be working on the day are more than welcome to attend but it will be unpaid time.
First tutorial is this FRIDAY OCT 30th - with me, topic: 'chest pain and acute coronary syndromes'. Look forward to seeing you there.
